Steve Zaillian, Mandate nab 'Close'

Screenwriter Jens Assur to direct the dramatic thriller

Steve Zaillian and Mandate Pictures have purchased Swedish photojournalist Jens Assur's screenplay "Close Far Away" for their new production co-venture Film Rites.

Assur is attached to direct the dramatic thriller for the shingle, which has a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Set in Europe, Africa, and the U.S., "Away" follows several characters put into vulnerable situations whose actions carry global consequences.

Zallian will produce the feature and Nathan Kahane will executive produce. Film Rites' Garrett Basch brought in the project and will oversee it with Mandate's Nicole Brown.

Assur won the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival best narrative short award for his writing and directing debut, "The Last Dog in Rwanda." Mandate's Dan Freedman brokered the deals on behalf of Film Rites.

Fall Out Boy talk about their new album

Fall Out Boy have revealed they have been thinking about making a new album.

The band are keen to start on a new record, and were discussing it at Pete Wentz and 's recent wedding, but there's no definite release schedule in place as yet.

The American pop-rockers are keen to get back in the studio though.

The band's guitarist, Patrick Stump, told Billboard.com: "It's one of those things music-wise where the band is really not talking about a record yet, but we're itching to do one."

He added: "Actually at the wedding we were like, 'We should do another record.' But I never want to mislead people."

Stump revealed the band have plenty of material to pick from.

He said: "So it's weird, because there's been rumours of us doing out next record for a long time, but it kind of comes from a misunderstanding about how we work because we're always writing. We've had material since 'Infinity On High' dropped."

Stump also added that any new material would sound different from any previous records.

He said: "I don't want to be overly vague, but whenever we do another record, it'll be different from the last one, and it's going to be different from the last three. I think the new stuff will have a lot of freedom on it, and it's going to be our first plain old record in a while."

The band may even be playing some gigs this year, and Stump hinted: "We always end up playing somewhere. I don't think we want to get rusty, and we're not going away for any length of time."

Ice Cube - The Turtles Sue Over Ice Cube Song

American rock group THE TURTLES are suing their former label Capitol Records for breach of contract and copyright infringement, after a song they claim to have written was sampled by rapper ICE CUBE in 1990.

The Turtles' founding members Mark 'Flo' Volman and Howard 'Eddie' Kaylan, otherwise known as Flo + Eddie, claim executives at Capitol reneged on an agreement to pay royalties for the use of their song Buzzsaw - which appeared in part on Ice Cube's Jackin' For Beats, from his EP Kill At Will.

In legal papers obtained by website TMZ.com and filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday (13May08), Volman and Kaylan allege they entered a deal with Capitol bosses in December 1990 regarding Buzzsaw, which covered royalty payments for the track.

However, the pair claim they have not received anything from Capitol, despite the release of various albums and compilations featuring Ice Cube's version of the track in the years since 1990.

The duo, best known for The Turtles' 1967 hit Happy Together, are seeking a minimum of $25,000 (GBP12,500) in damages - and have placed a maximum settlement figure of $70,000 (GBP35,000) on their complaint.

Formed in 2001 when Amoeba Music record store employees and musicians Jel (Jeffrey Logan) and Doseone (Robert Adam Drucker) -- wHO already made up the Anticon dance band Themselves -- started playing with Dax Pierson, clicking well-nigh outright. Soon they invited woodwind player Marty Dowers, guitar player Jordan Dalrymple, and violoncellist Alexander Kort -- all of whom Pierson had antecedently played with -- to join the mathematical group, and Subtle (with Jel on percussion section, Pierson on keys and autoharp, among early instruments, and Doseone on vocals) were born. After a couple of 12" releases and some EPs, A New White was released on Lex Records in 2004. Tragedy smitten the band in February the adjacent year when their go van slipped on black ice, paralyzing Pierson from the chest down. Still, Subtle pushed forth, issue the remix and collaboration EP Wishingbone in 2006 and signing to EMI, which released the group's soph uncut, For Hero: For Fool -- which included vocal and harmonica exercise from Pierson -- in alignment with Lex later that same year, with a companion slice, Cry & Ice, out in late 2007.
